Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The 2025 legislative session is just days away. As we prepare to return to the state Capitol in Olympia, I’m already working on many of the important issues Washington is facing. Since my last legislative update, I’ve had numerous opportunities to meet with many of you and listen to your concerns.

As your state representative, I aim to serve everyone in our diverse communities in the 25th District. As this 105-day legislative session approaches, House Republicans are working hard to fix Washington, including improving public safety, creating more affordable housing, increasing child care facilities, and making life more affordable.

2025 Session Focus

This session, I will focus on these and many other issues. In fact, I have already introduced several bills for 2025.

  • House Bill 1011 would create a school safety capital grant program.
  • House Bill 1027 would prevent a biological male who has been convicted of a crime against a female from being housed with biological females.
  • House Bill 1038 would prohibit puberty-blocking medications, cross-sex hormones, and gender transition surgeries for minors.
  • House Bill 1074 would exclude any person who is convicted of a hit-and-run resulting in death from being eligible for a first-time offender waiver.
  • House Bill 1100 would authorize a city or county the option to impose a sales and use tax that is credited against the state rate. This policy ensures that local governments can secure the resources necessary to meet critical infrastructure and service demands without increasing the overall tax burden on consumers.
  • House Bill 1101 would provide an effective date and expiration date for a vehicular homicide offense.
  • House Bill 1242 would reduce professional licensing fees for lower-paying professions.
  • House Bill 1255 would fund the removal of illegal and dangerous homeless camps.

I will keep you updated on these bills as the session moves forward.

New Committees

This session, I will serve on two new committees and maintain my role as an assistant ranking member on the House Finance Committee. This is an important committee, especially with all the new Democrat tax proposals coming this session. I want to stand up for hard-working people who are trying to make ends meet. Serving on the Finance Committee allows me to do that.

I will also have two new committee assignments in 2025. I will be on the House Civil Rights & Judiciary Committee, and serve as assistant ranking member of the Housing Committee.

House Page Program

With session almost here, now is a great time to let you know about the Washington State House of Representatives Page Program, which is now open for applications. Being a page can add a meaningful and unforgettable chapter to a student’s education and life experience.

Student pages spend a week helping House members with all sorts of tasks, including making deliveries across campus, supporting member offices, and diving into Page School.

  • Eligibility: Students should be 14-16 years old. Pages earn a stipend of $65 per day and can rack up to 20 hours of community service.
  • Extra help: If you need a hand with the costs of getting to Olympia and staying there, the Gina Grant Bull Memorial Legislative Page Scholarship can help. It’s designed to ease the financial load, so don’t hesitate to apply.

If you know a student in the 25th District who would benefit from this opportunity, please let them know about this program. It’s a great way to soak up knowledge and genuinely make a positive impact.
