Rep. Cyndy Jacobsen sponsors Puyallup high school student as House page

Covenant High School student, Vito Marcelli, recently spent a week at the state Capitol in Olympia to serve as a page in the Washington State House of Representatives. He was sponsored by Rep. Cyndy Jacobsen of the 25th Legislative District.

“I really enjoyed sponsoring Vito for the week. He is hard-working and attentive, and he has a bright future ahead of him,” said Jacobsen, R-Puyallup. “He did an exceptional job fulfilling his responsibilities in Olympia. I hope he found the experience to be informative and rewarding.”

In addition to working with Jacobsen as a page, Vito attended Legislative Page School every day to learn about the three branches of state government, the lawmaking process, and the importance of civil discourse.

He also had the opportunity to carry out numerous important duties that help the Legislature operate efficiently, including delivering messages and documents to legislators and staff, and assisting on the House floor.

Vito, who is 16 years old and from the Tacoma Washington School District, enjoys a wide variety of activities, including jiu-jitsu, weight training, and playing guitar.

“The page program is a great way for students to get an up-close look at how the Legislature operates, said Jacobsen. “I look forward to hosting more of these exceptional young men and women in the future.”

Each year, students from around Washington apply to participate in the House Page Program. To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school. Pages earn $65 per day while serving in the program.
