Rep. Jacobsen supports property tax relief

Rep. Cyndy Jacobsen, R-Puyallup, spoke in support of property tax relief during House floor debate on House Bill 5998, the supplemental operating budget.

“It might make a person delay retirement,” Jacobsen said on the impact of high property taxes. “It might make a person unable to afford a home. We talk about this as a wealth-building tool, and people need to be able to afford homes.”

Jacobsen said her own property taxes have increased by 41% in the past five years on the modest home where she raised her children.

Her remarks were on a proposed amendment that would cut the property tax levy for calendar year 2028, saving homeowners and renters more than $2 billion.

The majority party voted against the amendment, and it did not pass.
