Rep. Jacobsen speaks against income tax bill, citing overspending concerns
After more than 24 consecutive hours of debate in the House, Rep. Cyndy Jacobsen, R-Puyallup, spoke against Senate Bill 6346, which enacts Washington’s first income tax.
Jacobsen said she is concerned that the bill doesn’t solve the state’s overspending problem and fails to specify how the tax revenue would be used to benefit working people.
She also said the bill breaks a promise the Legislature made to Washingtonians in 2024 by adopting the citizen-led Initiative 2111, which banned state and local personal income taxes.
