Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope you are enjoying our beautiful spring weather.

I wanted to reach out to you one more time before election-year communication limits begin on May 4.

Town hall recap: Affordability

Thank you to everyone who attended our recent 25th District town hall in Puyallup. We had great attendance and went over the scheduled time, answering more questions and continuing our discussions.

I heard from many of you that we share concerns about affordability. Housing, grocery, and gasoline prices are too high. Decisions made in Olympia contribute to these costs. For example, taxes and fees add $1.47 per gallon to the cost of filling your vehicle. That adds up fast!

The state’s multi-billion-dollar budget deficits, overspending, and tax and fee increases do us no favors. I think this amounts to fiscal malfeasance.

We introduced real affordability policies to provide $2.1 billion in property tax relief, tax credits for businesses that provide child care, and sales tax holidays, but the majority rejected all of these proposals.

However, we stopped additional threats to affordability, including a utility bill surcharge, a grocery tax on bottled beverage containers, a new real estate excise tax, and an increase in the price of a paper bag to $0.20 at the store.

My side of the aisle encourages collaboration with the majority, and we work well together on many bills. Unfortunately, on taxes and the budget, we’ve encountered an agenda-driven mindset that closes off alternative solutions.

I am not giving up. My colleagues and I will keep introducing real solutions on affordability. Please visit our caucus website to learn more about how we can fix Washington.

Also, read more about what happened this session in my end-of-session review.

Election-year restrictions

This is an election year, and there are ethics rules on how I can communicate with you in the months ahead. These rules start on May 4 and run through the general election in November.

All legislators must follow these rules, which are in place to ensure a fair and transparent election process.

However, my work as your representative doesn’t stop. I’ll be busy throughout the interim working to make our state a better place to live for all Washingtonians. I want to make life more affordable, bring fiscal responsibility to state government, increase public safety, and make sure our students are learning well in school, among other things.

You can still call, email, or send me a letter. I am happy to discuss your ideas, answer questions, or help navigate state resources.

Stay connected with the Legislature

Additionally, there are several ways to stay up to date with what’s happening in the Legislature during the interim.

  • My legislative website | Find my contact information, bio, email updates, media, and bills I sponsored.
  • House Republican Caucus website | Learn more about my caucus’s priorities and work to fix Washington.
  • Legislature’s website | Find bill information, committee schedules, and other information about the House and Senate.
  • TVW | This is the state’s version of C-SPAN and broadcasts legislative events throughout the year.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with questions, ideas, or anything else. I look forward to meeting with you throughout the interim.

It is truly an honor to serve as your representative, and I value what each of you has to say.

Sincerely,

Cyndy Jacobsen
